Background
Nora was born in Grumpleton and lived as an only child with her parents. Her parents got a divorce when she was very young and her father moved to the city, where he works as a higher up at JojaCo. She stays with him during the summers, but he sends her to his parents, who live in Pelican Town and own Bauer Farm, and she enjoys growing up on the farm and helping them with chores. Because her father didn’t want to inherit the farm, Nora ends up inheriting it when her grandparents pass, making her the youngest owner of the farm ever! She was older than most of the kids when she stayed, so she never enjoyed playing with them, but she has memories with the younger bachelors and bachelorettes.
Her father ends up getting her a job in the company he works (JojaCo) and because of his influence, she is able to climb the ladder to a management position quite quickly. He also buys her a nice condo near the office to make her commute easier. Because she doesn’t have to pay any rent, mortgage, or bus fares and she makes a very cushy wage, she is able to spend in excess and develop many unsavory habits while in the city. She goes out partying every weekend and quickly develops an addiction to the lifestyle.
When she gets the letter that Grandpa has passed away, she is overcome with guilt. She talks to her father about it and he maintains that he doesn’t care about his own father, he has bigger things to worry about and doesn’t need to think of someone so beneath him. Nora is shocked, she can’t believe her father would say such things about his own father.
That night, Nora decided that it would be best for her to leave and travel to Pelican Town for a fresh start, away from her father. She packed up as much as she could and caught the bus in the morning, never looking back.
Present Life in Pelican Town
She struggles a lot at first, especially trying to adjust to life in a small town and with the exhaustive burnout that comes with having an extremely physically demanding job. She has never had a job where she wasn’t stationary, sitting at a desk, so it takes her a while to acclimate to it. When she arrives in town, she goes to the saloon on her first night to try and meet the locals. She clicks almost instantly with Shane, seeing a part of herself in him, as she would also drown herself in alcohol to hide from her feelings. They become quick friends, bonding over drinks, and eventually having some flirtations. While she didn’t think she could see a future with him, she enjoyed his company and enjoyed his company. After his 6 heart event, their view of each other turned platonic, as neither of them felt that they could be ready for a relationship, especially with each other, as they tried to find their own paths to sobriety. They remained friends and helped each other, eventually calling each other their “accountability buddy” and relying on one another for support. Eventually, when she completes the tasks for the community center and JojaMart closes year 2, she hires Shane to work on her farm to help her with deliveries outside of town since she can’t drive.
She also befriends Leah fairly quickly! They bond over their shared love of art and mutual disdain for Leah’s ex Kel (who Nora has history with as well).In The Future
Nora doesn’t end up feeling attraction to any of the eligible bachelors or bachelorettes in Pelican Town and, eventually, ends up meeting (and consequentially falling for) the mysterious casino owner, Mr Qi. She meets him 5 years into her residency in the valley and begins trying to romance him, not finding it as easy as she would have hoped. Eventually, they do marry, and he moves into the farm while also running the casino a few days a week. They decide they don’t want children but they adopt many chickens and goats, and they also unofficially “adopt” Leo.
